A Warm Welcome to Peter Kim our New Oakland Unite Manager!
Oakland Unite is happy to introduce the newest member of our team, Oakland Unite Manager Peter Kim.
Peter Kim has most recently been pursuing his PhD in Comparative Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. However, prior to this chapter in his life he worked for 17 years at the East Bay Asian Youth Center providing direct service to and managing programs for young people in Oakland. As the Program Director of Streetside Productions, a digital media training internship for high school age youth engaged in the juvenile justice system, Peter has helped youth learn to create a voice for themselves through documentary video and digital storytelling. He also served as the Managing Director of Street Team Counseling, an intensive Outreach and Case Management program aimed at providing advocacy, mentoring, and resource brokerage to highly marginalized youth, including juvenile offenders, chronic truants, school push-outs, gang-impacted youth, and commercially sexually exploited children. Peter’s experience working for a community-based organization in Oakland combined with his passion for social justice and commitment to education make him a great addition to the Oakland Unite team.
