Oakland Unite Year 1 Evaluation Report

Oakland Unite is proud to release the “Evaluation of Oakland Unite: Year 1 Strategy Report” prepared by the independent evaluation firm Mathematica Policy Research.

The report represents the first evaluation of Oakland Unite services funded through the Safety and Services Act of 2014 (Measure Z).  The City has contracted with Mathematica to evaluate Oakland Unite violence intervention programs and services annually and in a four-year comprehensive evaluation. Two sub-strategies are the initial focus of the Year 1 strategy evaluation: adult life coaching and employment/education support services.  In future years, other sub-strategies will be selected for in-depth analysis.

Some highlights from the report:

  • Adult life coaching and employment programs are working with people at the center of violence, and providing services that follow best practices.
  • Both sub-strategies decreased short-term arrests for violence in relation to a comparison group of similar people.
