Oakland Voters Pass Measure Z
On November 4, 2014 the Oakland community came together and voted to pass the 2014 Public Safety Ballot Measure, Measure Z, with a resounding 77% of the votes. This landslide victory means that the Oakland Fire Department, Oakland Police Department and Oakland Unite, the city’s violence prevention and intervention programs, will continue to receive critical funding for the next ten years. This funding allows for a coordinated approach to public safety in Oakland. Oakland Unite’s violence prevention and intervention programs have been successful at reducing recidivism for program participants and empowering them to make positive life changes. Oakland Unite is humbled and proud to continue this important work and use the lessons learned from the past ten years to work harder and be even more successful at creating a healthier and safer Oakland.
