Our Kids/Our Families Middle School Model

This sub-strategy is a school-based behavioral health model that combines direct support to students and their families with system enhancements to promote healthy social emotional growth, problem prevention and address behavioral health challenges, self esteem, grief/loss, depression and anger management.  Our Kids/Our Families provides school-based violence prevention and behavioral health services in thirteen (13) Oakland public middle schools. The schools are: West Oakland, Madison, Bret Harte, Claremont, Edna Brewer, Roosevelt, United for Success, College Coliseum Prep Academy/Roots Academy (Havenscourt site – 2 schools with one CCM), Westlake, Elmhurst Community Prep/Alliance Academy and Frick. With the goal of reducing school-related violence and increasing pro-social behaviors of youth, each year the Our Kids/Our Family program provides 520 high-risk students with psycho-social assessments, counseling, case management, referral and follow-up, and family support services.
