Friday Summer Nights Programs Recognized

Oakland Unite’s Messengers4Change Friday Summer Nights in the Park programs in East Oakland and the Friday Night Live program in West Oakland were highlighted in Oakland Local.

Simone Larson described the events as a great way to hang-out with neighbors and foster community. The article also highlights the positive evaluation data citing a drop in crime around the Willie Wilkins Park, traditionally a hotspot for violence, during the parks program. “During the three six-week periods that Friday Summer Nights has been held at Willie Wilkins Park – located in a part of town that is historically the most violent area in the city – police incidents within the park’s vicinity had decreased by a remarkable 48%,” writes Larson.
